Our recipes for tonight in our cook-along through Jamie Oliver’s cookbook, Jamie’s Food Revolution were:
- Hardly-Any-Prep Shrimp Stir-Fry, pg. 66
- Cookies, pg. 336
Tonight was a total failure! I don’t know if this is the fault of the recipe or the modifications I had to make to it, but it was not good. I could not find 5 spice powder, so I looked online to make it from single spices. I could not find rice sticks so I got rice noodles thinking they must be basically the same thing. (They were gross!) I also substituted chicken for the shrimp because my oldest daughter has a shell fish allergy. The other problem was how LONG it took to make it. I cannot understand how this is “hardly-any-prep”. Maybe if you are a professional chef and have other people to get everything washed and chopped and measured for you and all you have to do is throw it into the pan, MAYBE then it would only take 10 minutes as he says. There is no way this meal could be prepared 10 minutes after walking in the door from the grocery store. I am very interested to hear your feedback on this recipe. I hope you have a better experience than we did!
The cookies on the other hand, were lovely! The recipe doesn’t make many, but that is not a bad thing. There are only a few and they don’t hang around the house for days. I made one batch as called for in the recipe and one dairy free and they both turned out great. They are nice and thin and crunchy. These are not soft, cake-like cookies. They are very sweet and very buttery. Clint thinks they are too rich, but the kids love them.
