Fall Juicing with a Kick!

We have truly embraced the taste of fall. More than any other season, everyone gets on board with warm spices, root veggies, soups, stews, and s’mores. And those are just the foods of the season — Don’t get me started on all the rest of the fall goodness!

This time of year has exceptional foods and flavors. There are nearly too many to choose from and they all leave us feeling warm and satisfied.

I wanted the same thing out of a fall-themed juice. I wanted warmth, seasonal fruit, and a beautiful fall color from one drink. I went and picked out some seasonal fruits from a local market including pears and apples and paired them with oranges and golden beets. I have a theory that pairing fruits and vegetables based on color scheme will have a tendency to make really beautiful and great tasting juices!

To enhance those fruits, and bring in the flavors of the season, I added ginger and cayenne pepper. Now, you may be a bit hesitant of the cayenne, but believe me, it was exactly what this juice needed. It brought out the flavor of the ginger and gave it a lovely, warm kick, that wasn’t too much. The warm flavors paired well with the sweetness of the juice.  This is an excellent juice for those new to juicing. No matter what type of juicer you have — a slow one or a fast one — the flavors are sweet and the kick in the after taste will be sure to inspire your own juicing creations.

I was slightly concerned that we had too many flavors mixed into one juice. But, once we juiced all of the fruits and added the ginger and cayenne, my fears were quickly wiped away. They worked really well together, and like I said before, the spice was spot on. The juice was a golden orange color; the same color as an Aspen Tree this time of year…just passed the explosive yellow and just before it turns a deep red.

Now I’m just being sentimental. I love this time of year too. Can you tell?

Embrace the season with me and try this juice out as soon as you can.

My two cents on juicing…

  1. Good juice tastes good. If it has to be forced down, it isn’t good juice. No matter how good it is for you.
  2. Good juice must be beautiful. I have a theory that pairing fruits and veggies based on color, also pairs their flavor profiles. They have a tendency to match and make the best juices.
  3. Don’t leave out herbs and spices. Lemon balm, lemon basil, mint, even the cayenne from today’s recipe can make a juice sing!
